About Toxo-Mox®

Rating of sales:

Description

Toxo-Mox® manufacturer is SavaVet. Toxo-Mox® raw materials are Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid (Potassium Clavulanate). Amoxicillin is a semisynthetic antibiotic from the drug class of Aminopenicillins with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor, that protects Amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes and extends its activity.

Indications:

Dogs:

- skin infections (wounds, abscesses, cellulitis, superficial/juvenile and deep pyoderma due to ß-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, non-ß-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., and E. coli);

- periodontal infections due to aerobic and anaerobic bacteria (canine periodontal disease).

Cats:

- skin infections (e.g., wounds, abscesses, and cellulitis/dermatitis due to ß-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, non-ß-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, and Pasteurella spp);

- urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis due to susceptible strains of E. coli).

Toxo-Mox® is not effective for treating infections caused by a virus or fungus.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Amoxicillin is a bactericidal agent, that kills bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called Peptidoglycan, which is the main component of the cell walls of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Clavulanic Acid inactivates a wide variety of enzymes called β-lactamases by blocking their active sites. Amoxicillin is effective against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (except strains producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp; aerobic gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria Gonorrhoeae, Neisseria Meningitidis, Escherichia Coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp.

Dosage

Dogs:

The recommended dosage: 6,25 mg/lb of body weight twice a day.

The duration of treatment of skin and soft tissue infections and periodontal infections is 5-7 days or for 48 hours after all symptoms have disappeared.
