About Petcam® Oral Suspension

Rating of sales:

Petcam® Oral Suspension is manufactured by Cipla Vet. This oral anti-inflammatory medication comes in a liquid form that is easy to administer in dogs. There are also two graduated syringes in a pack that make the dose measurement comfortable and safe even for the smallest dog breeds. The active substance comprised in this suspension is Meloxicam, NSAID of oxicam group and COX-2 inhibitor. This drug has strong anti-exudative, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. Meloxicam also possesses better gastrointestinal tolerability comparing to other NSAIDs (COX-1 inhibitors) and does not cause stomach ulcers.

- pain and inflammation occurring due to soft tissue injuries and acute or chronic musculoskeletal disorders in dogs (canine arthritis, discospondylitis, rheumatism, congenital hip dysplasia, etc.).

Although Petcam® Oral Suspension relieves the symptoms of the named conditions, the sole use of this treatment does not cure any of them.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Meloxicam alleviates the inflammation and pain by suppressing the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (also known as prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 or PTGS2) – an enzyme involved in production and release of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are lipid mediators, that stimulate inflammation in the body and sensitize pain receptors. When prostaglandin concentration in the body lowers, pain and inflammation are symptomatically relieved.

Petcam® Oral Suspension should be taken orally, mixed with the dog’s food or directly into the mouth (for big dogs only).

The initial daily dose is 4 drops (0,2 mg)/kg bodyweight on the first day of treatment course.

After observing the response to initial therapy with Petcam® Oral Suspension, the dose and course duration should be adjusted by a veterinarian to suit your dog’s needs.

The average daily dose is 2 drops (0,1 mg)/kg bodyweight.

How to give Petcam® Oral Suspension with a graduated syringe:

1. Shake the closed bottle with the suspension well.

2. Open the bottle pressing down the top cap and simultaneously turning it anticlockwise.

3. Depending on the size of your dog, choose one the attached syringes (the small one for small and medium dogs and the bigger one for big dogs).

4. Insert the syringe into the bottle and pull the plunger to the approximate volume required for your pet.

5. Check the amount of medicine in the syringe and drop the unnecessary suspension back to the bottle if any.

6. Close the bottle.

7. Empty the contents of the syringe to your dog’s food or directly into the mouth (only for big dogs).

8. Wash the syringe thoroughly and let it dry before the next use.

In order to avoid overdose in small and medium dogs, always mix the suspension with the dog’s food. Direct into-the-mouth administration is suitable for big dogs only.

Do not give Petcam® Oral Suspension to your dog for longer than 10 days.

If your dog still suffers from pain or inflammation after the daily dose was administered, another NSAID must be considered by your veterinarian. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of Petcam® Oral Suspension.

If you decided to give Petcam® Oral Suspension to your dog after having administered any other NSAID earlier, you have to leave 24-hour free-treatment period between treatment courses.

Do not give Petcam® Oral Suspension to dogs under 6 weeks of age.

Do not give Petcam® Oral Suspension to any other pets beyond dogs.
